Caroline Louisa (Leah) Garrett was born in 1871 in Holywood, Co. Down and was member of a strongly Orange family.
In her teens she played the piano and trumpet, but one of her first passions was golf and she played for Royal Belfast Ladies Gold Club.
Miss Garrett was Worshipful Mistress of WLOL No. 4 in Holywood, and first Grand Secretary of the Association, before becoming Grand Mistress in 1923.
