At the beginning of June 2015, members of GOLI staff and the REACH team travelled over to Glasgow in Scotland to promote the museums and outreach to the members of the Orange Order in Scotland.

Staff were in Glasgow for two nights. The first night included a special viewing of the film ‘Strong to Survive’ followed by a brief presentation about the museums. This event took place in Braehead and also allowed those attending to sample a few of the new shop products which will feature in the new museum.

The second day involved the Grand Orange Lodge of Ireland and Museum of Orange Heritage, having a stall at the Orangefest organised by the Grand Orange Lodge of Scotland in George’s Square in the centre of Glasgow. During the Orangefest talks and entertainment took place and both GOLI staff Drew Nelson (Grand Secretary) and David Hume (Director of Services) gave talks to the Scottish crowds. It was estimated that over 5000 people attended the event throughout the day. Again, the Scottish crowds were able to purchase many of the new items we are stocking in the museum shop and many items were very popular!

This trip allowed us to further outreach to members and non-members in Scotland, promoting and creating awareness of the museums. We found this trip extremely productive and well worthwhile. We hope to see many of our Scottish friends over visiting the new museums!
